School Safety Letter
My name is Mrs Bell and I am technologies coordinator at Niddrie Mill Primary.
My roles at Niddrie Mill at the moment include:
The technologies framework provides a range of different contexts for learning that draw on important aspects of everyday life and work.
It includes creative, practical and work-related experiences and outcomes in business, computing science, food, textiles, craft, design, engineering, graphics and applied technologies.
It is important to remember that as children and young people play and learn they will develop an interest, confidence and enjoyment in ICT skills that can be transferred and applied in different learning contexts.

I also support the teachers with technologies in the classroom
'Put simply, moving image media literacy means 'reading' and 'writing' moving images, understanding, enjoying and sharing them.'

At parent's evening/afternoon I try and run an information evening to tell you what is happening; it is also an opportunity for you to come and see me if you need to. However if you have a query you can make an appointment to see me whenever.

For two weeks (Week beginning 24th January and 1st February) Miss Borthwick ran Internet Safety Weeks linked to the Government organisation CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) and their website www.thinkyouknow.co.uk. Children learned about various aspects of internet safety and about keeping safe, when online. The P1's - 3's learned about Hector's World and P4-P7 completed activities linked to the Cyber caf. On Friday 12th February Miss Borthwick and helpers from throughout the school ran an assembly to the rest of the school.
The Nasty Text Message
Primary 7's created a sketch about sending nasty text messages. This was to highlight how a victim should feel and that they should tell someone if they receive anything that is nasty or makes them feel uncomfortable. It also highlighted the consequences for someone, who thought it was ok to send nasty texts.
The Borrowed phone
Primary 7's created a sketch, where someone Borrowed their friends phone and sent Nasty texts to the teacher, this highlighted that you should be careful who you lend your phone to and also the consequences for people, who do send Nasty texts, even when it is not their own phone.
The SMART thinking pictures are things that children need to remember when they are online.
