P4b ArtSpace

As part of our local area project, we visited ArtSpace to have a look at the John Maxwell art mural The children learned about its history and sketched some details. We intend to make our own version of the mural bringing it right into the 21st century.

Deep Sea World visited P2

Primary 2 took part in a Science workshop with Phil and Kayleigh from Deep Sea World on Tuesday the 9th of February 2010. We had great fun and we learned lots.
We learned:-
  • Not to put litter in rivers or the sea
  • That sharks have sharp teeth in rows and when their teeth fall out, new teeth appear
  • That predator means an animal which hunts and eats other animals
  • That prey means the animal which is hunted and eaten
  • That starfish have five eyes, an eye at the end of each tentacle
  • That sharks have been around even longer than dinosaurs
  • That a magazine takes 6 weeks to biodegrade if it is thrown into the sea
  • That crabs have bones on the outside of their bodies, they have an exoskeleton
  • That a food chain is a list of animals that eat other animals
  • That we shouldn't put oil into the sea because it doesn't mix with the water
  • Oil sticks to the animal's skin, fur or feathers
